Environmental Crimes Convictions Surge, Minister Urges Stricter Punishment

Kuala Lumpur, March 21, 2024 – The number of environmental crime convictions saw a significant increase last year, with 409 cases brought to court compared to 289 cases in 2019, announced Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. Addressing the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (March 21), Nik Nazmi emphasized the necessity for harsher penalties against environmental offenders due to the detrimental impact of pollution on public health, safety, and the environment.
