EU Proposes Comprehensive New Outlook on Threats of Climate Change and Environmental Degradation on Peace, Security, and Defense

The European Commission and the High Representative have recently adopted a Joint Communication that outlines the European Union’s response to the escalating impact of climate change and environmental degradation on peace, security, and defense. The increasing occurrence of climate extremes, rising temperatures and sea levels, desertification, water scarcity, threats to biodiversity, and environmental pollution are endangering humanity’s well-being and creating potential risks such as displacement, migratory movements, pandemics, social unrest, instability, and conflicts.
