This call for renewable energy projects intends to support ongoing efforts by Latin American and Caribbean countries to increase the use of renewable energy to address the rising demand for energy, diversify their energy mix, support economic growth and meet climate objectives.

As countries navigate distinct energy realities, renewable energy is emerging as a common solution to challenges spanning energy access, affordability, security and industrial competitiveness, with IRENA's regional and country-level assessments guiding local action that drives global progress.

The Renewable Energy Statistics 2026 released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) today shows that renewable electricity generation grew by 9.8% in 2024 — significantly higher than the growth rate recorded in 2023.

Renewable power generation costs are stabilising, but they remain the most cost-competitive source of new electricity generation.

Renewable power costs remain low, making renewables the cheapest source of new electricity in most markets and further strengthening their cost advantage over fossil fuels.

At a time when energy security and affordability have risen to the top of the development agenda, 655 million people globally still lack access to electricity, and two billion use polluting fuels and technologies for cooking putting their health and well-being at risk.
